The Charles Paddock Zoo in Atascadero is just a short drive off of Highway 101 and is easy to find. It is a small zoo and very nicely kept. When we went several years ago, we were there when it opened in the morning and we were the only guests at the zoo. It was refreshing and they had unusual animals I had never seen before. The Zoo is located next to Atascadero Lake Park, where you can enjoy beautiful scenery and have a picnic. It’s worth the short detour. Ten miles from Morro Bay.
